Ursa Minor Ensemble’s debut work, Growth, explores the body and reality of a deaf performer through the lens of places reclaimed by nature and the concept of ecological succession. What happens if a person is allowed to be deaf on stage? How does our understanding of the stage and the performer’s body change when we let them to be Deaf?

Growth is a struggle to break free from normative performance traditions and an othering conception of humanity, in which deafness is foreign and unknown. Growth is an artistic manifesto that takes over the performative space and questions its ownership.
